Lives lost to homicide remembered at On Wings of Love in Clarksville | PHOTOS

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Close to 150 family members and friends of homicide victims came together at First Baptist Clarksville Tuesday for the 26th annual On Wings of Love ceremony. The event is hosted each year by the office of Robert Nash, the 19th Judicial District Attorney General.
The ceremony is a memorial for those who have lost their lives to homicide or violence. Family and friends of victims along with law enforcement placed a handmade Christmas ornament on two Christmas trees. Before placing their ornament on the tree, the family or friend of the victim would announce who they were and the name of the person they had lost.
Nash told the crowd that the District Attorney General’s Office was honored to offer the On Wings of Love program and the opportunity to gather with other families and friends that have lost loved ones to homicidal violence. “We share, I know my office does, and law enforcement does, we share in your grief and sorrow,” Nash said.
“We do have some good news as of recently. For the last couple of years through the deterrence efforts of law enforcement, through community outreach, and thorough investigations and strong prosecutions, we have a reduction in homicide cases over the last few years. However of course, one life taken is one too many,” Nash said.
The guest speaker for the ceremony was Vera Wyatt, the co-founder of Tennessee Voices for Victims.
Stella Cook was remembering her husband who was the victim of a homicide in 2018. “It’s a way of keeping him alive, I guess. It’s a way of letting other people know that they are not alone and there’s other people that are going through the same thing that they are,” Cook said.
