Clarksville Black History Month Committee hosts annual celebration | VIDEO

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville Black History Month Committee held its annual closing of Black History Month ceremony on Thursday at First Missionary Baptist Church. The celebration drew hundreds of people and featured live music and performances.
“The reason why this event is special to me, is because it highlights the achievements of Black Americans, and it also highlights our heritage and what our forefathers have gone through in order to bring us to the point that we are right now,” said Frank Washington.
He praised the performances, saying, “Some great performances tonight. I really thank the Lord for the talent. It needs to be seen, needs to be spread, and that’s important.”
Washington explained the importance of sharing the message. “However we can communicate the message through fine arts, crafts, through literature, through science, however, we can communicate, the message needs to be communicated. The more ways it’s communicated the better, because it’ll reach more people.”

Cathy Lynnette Adams-Johnson, director of the Clarksville Black History Month Committee, said, “God has blessed us so tremendously. Thank you for supporting us all year… it’s such a blessing.”
