New Year’s Eve Party to feature drone show, winners of Christmas in Clarksville, Deck the County contests

Updated: The first drone show will be at 8:50 p.m. The second just before midnight.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The second Montgomery County New Year’s Eve Party will feature live music, a balloon drop and, new this year, a drone show and the winners of the Christmas lighting contests.

Everything will be at the Downtown Commons, at 215 Legion St, on Tuesday, Dec. 31, beginning at 8:50 p.m. with the first drone show. Next up will be the announcement of the winners of the Clarksville Now Christmas in Clarksville lighting contest, and of the new Deck the County business lighting contest.

That will be followed by live music, a dance floor, a photo-booth trailer, food trucks and more. The night will end with a midnight balloon drop.

APSU drone show

Austin Peay State University (APSU) and the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) will sponsor two drone shows at the event, according to an APSU news release. The first drone show will be at 8:50 p.m., and the second one just before midnight.

APSU’s Scott Raymond, an associate professor of animation in the Department of Art + Design, has devoted part of his ART4410 Animation 3 class this semester to developing mock-ups, getting client feedback and sign-off and creating 3D animated designs for the different images that will be used in the show. The class has been able to collaborate with UAV Pro Inc. to learn more about the design and development process required to create the animations for a drone show. Austin Peay’s GIS Center and UAV Pro Inc. will join forces to implement Tuesday’s shows.

Austin Peay will offer free parking in lots nearby, with the exception of Lots 22, 23, 77, and 28, which will be reserved for event preparations. For more details on parking lots, please visit apsu.edu/parking.
